Fluorocarbon tippet is ideal when targeting skittish fish or fishing in clear, thin waters, making it a top choice for trout and yellowfish in large still waters or thin streams. Its unique characteristic is that fluorocarbon sinks rather than floating on the water’s surface, unlike nylon mono-filaments, which means it is not suitable for dry fly fishing. Using fluorocarbon in dry fly situations will cause the fly to sink continuously.

However, for anglers switching to dry fly fishing, it’s recommended to use Unreel Copolymer Tippets instead. These copolymer tippets greatly enhance the floating time of the fly.
